User Interviews
Objective
Gain insights on user's attitudes, pain points and desires in relation to how they work.
Workshop
Tasks:
- Prior to the interviewee arriving designate who will facilitate and who will be the note-taker
- Facilitator guides the conversation
- Note-taker scribes insights during the conversation
- Facilitator welcomes the interviewee, explains in brief the purpose of the interview and answers any questions the interviewee may have
- Facilitator uses the interview sheet to guide the interviewee through a conversation
- Aim to limit the conversation time to within approx. 30-45 mins
- Important not to ask leading questions and allow time for interviewee to offer information without being prompted
- Non-leading questions i.e. What do you think about...? How would you...? How do you...?
- Note-taker scribes a summary of the conversation capturing key insights i.e. facts; feelings; pain points; etc.
- Facilitator thanks the interviewee for their time and asks if they would be interested in participating in future usability testing
- Post interview the facilitator and note-take spend 15 minutes to debrief and capture insights on post-it notes
- Use one post-it note per insight
- Insights will be shared with wider group during user synthesis
